SERVICES & HOSPITAL TOUR

We are a full service veterinary hospital with 2 full time doctors who see not just cats and dogs, but other pets too. We see snakes, birds, tortoises, rats, ferrets, rabbits, hedgehogs, and more. We are also able to see wildlife, so while we usually get in injured pigeons or seagulls; sometimes we will get a bird of prey such as a hawk or an osprey. We have an onsite lab, which allows us to run blood work here, as well as an onsite x-ray machine. We do everything at the hospital from routine vaccinations, to microchips, to orthopedic surgeries. Above all, we give your pet all of the love and care that we would give to our own pets.

Following is a tour of our hospital outlining some of the services we provide.

When you walk in you will see our reception area. While we strive to make sure your wait is never to long, if you are waiting we invite you to look at all of the great pictures of our patients who are Perfectly Pampered Pets on the wall. (Please note, that we kindly require that all cats are in carriers and all dogs are on leashes when entering our hospital. This is for the safety of everyone.)
We have two exam rooms so that each Doctor is able to see an appointment at the same time.
Our treatment area is where we, as a staff, do most of our work. It is here that we have our in-house lab so that we can do blood work and get results right away. It is this machine that runs pre operative blood panels, general health profiles, and CBC's (Complete Blood Count). We also run Heartworm, Lyme, and Ehrlicia tests in house, as well as Feline Leukemia and FIV tests. For more detailed blood analysis and some specific tests, we collect the blood here and an outside veterinary lab picks up the samples and faxes the results to us the next morning.
We use our microscopes to run fecal samples, look for sediment in a urinalysis, or to do a cytology (on an ear, a growth, etc.)
We have a large in house pharmacy, which allows us to fill most of the prescriptions that your pet needs here on site…this way you do not have to go to an outside pharmacy to pick up medications.

All of our vaccines come straight from the manufacturer. They do not go through any distributors, which allows us to maintain the highest vaccine standards, knowing that they are always kept at the correct temperature.

We do dental cleanings here as well. We have an ultrasonic scaler, just like your dentist uses. We do a complete scaling and polishing procedure, followed by a fluoride treatment. It is amazing to see an animal's teeth before a dental prophy and then see them afterwards…it makes you realize how important dental health is. Sometimes we have to pull teeth, but we always try our best to "save" the tooth and pull it if it is the only option. We also do Non-Anesthetic Dentals the last Thursday of every month for animals that have mild to moderate tartar and do not need an anesthetic dental.
We do approximately 3 to 5 surgeries every day. While we do spays (ovariohysterectomies) and neuters (castrations), we also do other surgeries to remove masses, repair ligaments, pin bones, remove bladder stones, etc. on a wide variety of pets.

While your pet is undergoing surgery he or she is anesthetized with a human grade anesthetic (isoflurane or sevoflurane). While the Doctor does surgery, your pet is constantly monitored. We use a machine called a pulse oximeter, which measures the oxygen saturation of the blood, heart rate, and respiratory rate. Your pet is also monitored by a Blood Pressure Monitor, which alerts us if your pet's blood pressure rises or drops to dangerous levels. To maintain your pet's body temperature during surgery (body temperature drops when you pet is anesthetized), your pet is placed on a Thermacare air blanket heating system so that their temperature stays constant. Also, when pets are kept warm during surgery they recover much faster.

In addition to these machines, there is an assistant in the surgery room constantly monitoring your pet under anesthesia. After surgery we continue to monitor and give postoperative pain medication so that your pet is as comfortable as he or she can be. All of our surgical instruments are sterilized in our autoclave to prevent the spread of disease.

We have an x-ray machine here at the hospital, which allows us to take a radiograph of your pet, if necessary, and view the picture as soon as possible. Following are some interesting x-rays that we have taken here at the hospital.

We also do advanced orthopedic screening here. We do both Penn Hip and OFA screenings, which evaluate a patient's hips.

We try to make our kennel area as comfortable as possible for your pet. While it's not quite the same as being at home, we give all of our feline patients a fleecy pet bed, litter, and plenty of catnip. Our canine friends always get a big towel or blanket, cookies, and plenty of love.
